Castle Mountain Run-of-River Projects

Castle Mountain Hydro Ltd.'s 8MW Run-Of-River hydroelectric power generation plant is to be constructed on Benjamin Creek just outside of McBride. The project has been selected by BC Hydro to be awarded an electricity purchase agreement under the Clean Power Call.

About This Project

Castle Mountain Hydro Ltd. is a Canadian owned company, privately shared by four individuals with extensive experience in hydroelectric projects and civil aspects of small hydro construction. Castle Mountain Hydro Ltd. is developing an independently owned, 8MW hydroelectric power generation plant near McBride, B.C. The project proponent has held an Energy Purchase Agreement with BC Hydro since 2010 to supply clean, renewable energy to the Robson Valley. Once completed, the project is expected to be able to provide sufficient energy to power the community of McBride in the event of a power outage.

According to Shirley Bond, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, and MLA for Prince George-Valemount, "Independent power projects like the Castle Mountain Hydro project will help to diversify the economy in the Robson Valley and create clean energy at the same time. In addition, this project will contribute to ongoing efforts to improve the quality of electrical service in the community."

The Simpcw First Nation has signed a cooperation agreement with Castle Mountain Hydro that gives Simpcw the option of acquiring equity partnership in the project.

Construction on the Castle Mountain Hydro project is underway and the project proponent estimates an April 2014 completion date.
